WHAT CAN I DO IF MY EPICUREAN CUTTING BOARD WARPS?Updated 2 years ago

Minor warping may occur from time to time. Because Epicurean products are made from natural materials, some movement of the board in and of itself is normal. In most cases, warping may either self-correct or most likely will be able to be remedied by “counter warping.”

Important: we recommend all boards to be stored on their side (versus flat on a surface) to dry.

WARP

ONE

Warping may happen if a board is stored flat after becoming wet and both surfaces are not allowed to dry evenly.

TWO

If the board is stored flat, moisture (usually residual water left from washing in the sink or dishwasher) becomes trapped underneath, and as the moisture tries to escape, it causes the board to warp. Even the smallest amount of moisture may cause the board to warp.

*We recommend that the board be stored upright on its side to dry.

COUNTER-WARP

ONE

To "counter warp" a cutting board: Wash your cutting board, leaving a bit of moisture on the board. Next, dampen a paper towel and lay it on your countertop. Lay the board the “convex” way down or with corners touching the paper towel (like a rainbow). Boards with non-slip feet should have the feet removed. Adding a bit of weight on top of your board, such as a book, should further aid in counter-warping.

TWO

Give the board a day to dry thoroughly. After that, your cutting board should be leveled out.

THREE

*Again, we recommend that the board be stored upright on its side so both surfaces can dry evenly. This will help to keep the board in optimal working condition.
